Barcelona and Spain receive a boost as Gavi has been medically cleared, ending a long injury layoff that kept him out of 40 matches for the Catalan club.

The Sevilla-born midfielder is included in Barcelona’s squad for Sunday’s LaLiga clash against Sevilla (16:15 CET), marking his first selection in over six months. Gavi underwent arthroscopic surgery in late September to address an internal meniscus issue sustained in August, limiting him to just the first two games of the season against Mallorca and Levante.

He recently traveled with the squad to Newcastle, though he had not yet received medical clearance at that time. His return comes at a pivotal stage, with Barcelona chasing both the LaLiga and Champions League titles and Spain preparing for the upcoming World Cup.

Gavi, a product of the Real Betis youth system, has a history of remarkable comebacks. He previously returned to action against Sevilla on October 20, 2024, after recovering from a complete ACL tear and external meniscus injury suffered with the Spanish national team in November 2023, playing eight minutes under Hansi Flick.
