FC Copenhagen have confirmed the signing of Moroccan midfielder Amir Richardson on loan from Fiorentina for the remainder of the season, with the agreement including an option to make the move permanent.

The 23-year-old central midfielder joined Serie A side Fiorentina in the summer of 2024 and has already earned nine international caps for Morocco.

FC Copenhagen sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen praised Richardson’s qualities, highlighting his attacking instincts and dynamic style of play.

“Amir has clear offensive strengths and plays with great energy,” Smith-Nielsen said. “He is technically and tactically strong, and we are excited to welcome him into the squad. We have followed him for some time, and we’re pleased to finally bring him to Copenhagen. He now needs time to settle, and we look forward to seeing him in an FC Copenhagen shirt.”

Smith-Nielsen added that strengthening the midfield was a key objective during the transfer window.

“It was a priority to bring in a midfielder of Amir’s quality. He is here until the summer initially, and we will evaluate the possibility of a permanent move once the season concludes.”

Richardson, who was born and raised in France to an American father and Moroccan mother, developed his football education at Nice before spells with Le Havre, Reims and Fiorentina.

The midfielder said he was excited by the opportunity to join the Danish champions.

“It feels great to come to FC Copenhagen,” Richardson said. “This is a big club that competes for trophies and performs very well in European competitions. I know the club has been interested in me before, so it’s satisfying that the move has now happened.”

“I’ve had very positive discussions with the club’s management about how I can contribute to the team. I feel confident and optimistic, and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

After limited playing time in recent months, Richardson is eager to make an impact.

“I haven’t played much over the last six months, and I’m hungry to contribute and make a difference. I’ll give everything to integrate into the team and leave a strong impression in the white shirt.”
