Graham Potter Open to Sweden Job Following Tomasson Sacking

Former West Ham United and Chelsea manager Graham Potter has expressed interest in taking over as Sweden head coach after Jon Dahl Tomasson was dismissed on Tuesday. The role would mark a return to the country where Potter achieved his greatest success.

Tomasson was relieved of his duties with Sweden languishing at the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, having secured just one point from four matches.

Potter, who was sacked by West Ham in September, spent more than seven years at Swedish club Östersund. During his tenure, he guided the team from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the top flight and even into European competition.

“I’m between jobs and open to anything where I feel I can contribute,” Potter told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen from his home in Sweden. “I have strong feelings for Sweden. I owe a lot to Swedish football. Two of my children were born here, and I’ve experienced several leagues here. I feel I have a deep understanding of the country and its football culture.”

Potter’s stints in England have been short-lived. He lasted less than seven months at Chelsea before moving to fellow London club West Ham, which also ended in a brief tenure.

“I’m at a point where the next role I take on has to be something I truly believe in,” he said. “I need to feel I can make a difference and that I’ll be supported. I’ve gained a lot of experience so far and I’m very grateful for my career, but I’m only 50, and I still have a lot to offer. It’s not about the level of the job—it’s about finding a position where I can make an impact.”

Potter denied media speculation that he had already been in talks with the Swedish Football Association. He emphasized that financial considerations would not influence his decision if they were to approach him.

“I’ve been fortunate in my career and I’m in a very good financial position,” Potter said. “It’s reached a point where money isn’t a factor in deciding whether to take a job or not.”
