Ex-Miami Heat star Chris Bosh describes being ‘lucky to be alive’ following serious health scare

Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Bosh says he feels “lucky to be alive” after a sudden health scare in which he passed out and woke to find himself covered in blood.
The former Miami Heat star, whose NBA career was cut short by blood clots, shared the incident in a video on Instagram, revealing he was still recovering but did not provide specific details about the cause.
Bosh, 41, explained that he collapsed while preparing for a date with his wife. “I woke up covered in my own blood,” he said. “It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant. There was no warning. I didn’t have any time to prepare for it.”
Bosh was a key member of Miami’s famed “Big Three” alongside LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, before blood clots in his lungs and legs forced him out of the game during the 2015-16 season. At the time, he was 31 and still averaging 19.1 points per game, holding out hope for a comeback until officially retiring in 2019.
The Heat retired his No. 1 jersey in March 2019, and he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 alongside Paul Pierce, Ben Wallace, and Chris Webber.
Reflecting on his latest health scare, Bosh said it had given him a “simpler and more honest” outlook on life. He urged fans to act on their goals and desires without delay.
“No matter what it is, make sure you don’t wait. That’s the thing that I get from this,” he said. “Don’t wait to take action because it could come fast. It could come quick. And I’m lucky to be alive, and I feel great about that. And now I’m thinking about how I live my day-to-day life. That’s really it. But don’t wait.”
