Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star center Evan Mobley, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, is expected to miss two to four weeks after sustaining a left calf strain, the team announced Saturday.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury during Friday night’s 130–126 win over the Washington Wizards. Mobley exited the game after experiencing calf tightness, despite delivering a strong performance with 23 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes.

An MRI conducted Saturday confirmed the severity of the injury, and the Cavaliers said treatment has already begun. The team provided the projected recovery timeline following the evaluation.

Selected third overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, Mobley has been a key contributor for Cleveland this season. He leads the team in rebounding at 9.3 per game and blocked shots at 1.6 per contest, while ranking second in scoring with 19.1 points per game, trailing only Donovan Mitchell.

Cleveland is currently dealing with several injuries, as Larry Nance Jr. (right calf), Jarrett Allen (right third finger), Max Strus (left foot) and Sam Merrill (right hand) are also sidelined.

The Cavaliers enter the week seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 15–11 record.

Last season, Mobley posted career highs of 18.5 points and 3.2 assists per game, along with 9.3 rebounds, continuing his emergence as one of the league’s premier two-way players.
