Marsaxlokk came from behind to register a crucial 2-1 victory over Mosta, taking a significant step towards securing a place in the Top Six.

Mosta made the stronger start and threatened early when Nevin Portelli broke into the area after a misplaced pass by Joseph Minala, only to be denied by goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi. The breakthrough arrived on 17 minutes in spectacular fashion, with Pedro Cacho unleashing a powerful 30-metre strike that left Mafoumbi with no chance.

Buoyed by the opener, Mosta continued to press and nearly doubled their advantage when Giancarlo Sciberras fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

Marsaxlokk gradually grew into the contest, with Nikolai Muscat forcing a save from Akpan before drawing level on 33 minutes through a moment of brilliance from Dodo. The forward turned past his marker and, from around 25 metres, drilled an unstoppable shot into the net.

Dodo struck again ten minutes later to complete the turnaround, finishing clinically to give Marsaxlokk a 2-1 lead before the break.

The win lifts Marsaxlokk to third place on 17 points, keeping them within touching distance of the leaders while strengthening their position in the race for a Top Six berth.
