Jaydee Canvot described Crystal Palace’s defensive unit as “like brothers” following his full Premier League debut against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 19-year-old France U21 international was handed his first top-flight start after Marc Guehi was sidelined through injury, stepping into a high-pressure clash with confidence.

Canvot delivered a commanding performance as Palace secured a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

“I’m happy because I helped the team today,” Canvot told the club’s website. “We didn’t win, but that was a good game. That was a good derby. We just played like we play every time, so yeah, I’m happy.

“And a clean sheet! I’m a defender, so I don’t have to score many goals, but that was good. Everybody did an incredible performance. Mitchell was very good too.”

Looking ahead, Canvot expressed his desire for more opportunities in the first team. “I hope I can get a lot more starts after that. I’m a competitor, I’m a football player, so I want to play every game I can. I just want to play every time and help the team.”
