Manchester United continued their resurgence with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Arsenal, completing a swift double over two Premier League title contenders and handing the Gunners their first home defeat of the season.

After edging past Manchester City last weekend, United arrived at the Emirates full of confidence, but faced their toughest test yet against the league’s in-form side. Arsenal began on the front foot, dominating possession and territory, though their early pressure produced little reward beyond a speculative effort from Leandro Trossard.

The hosts soon created their first clear opening when Martín Zubimendi rose highest to meet Declan Rice’s cross, only for Senne Lammens to produce an excellent save and turn the header behind. Arsenal’s breakthrough felt inevitable, and it eventually came in fortunate fashion. Patrick Dorgu failed to fully clear a dangerous delivery, allowing Martin Ødegaard’s strike to ricochet off Lisandro Martínez and into the net.

Despite their control, Arsenal were soon undone by a costly mistake. Zubimendi’s misplaced pass sent Bryan Mbeumo clean through on goal, and the forward calmly rounded David Raya before rolling the ball into an empty net to restore parity.

The equaliser visibly unsettled the home side, and United took full advantage after the interval. Just six minutes into the second half, Dorgu justified his recent deployment in wide midfield by unleashing a powerful long-range strike that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar following neat interplay with Bruno Fernandes.

Mikel Arteta responded with a quadruple substitution, but the changes failed to shift the momentum. United controlled proceedings with surprising comfort, limiting Arsenal’s attacking threat and appearing on course for a memorable victory.

However, the visitors briefly switched off late on. With six minutes remaining, Bukayo Saka’s curling corner caused chaos in the box, and Mikel Merino reacted quickest to poke home from close range, setting up a thrilling finale.

The drama was not over. Almost immediately, United struck back when Matheus Cunha produced a stunning effort from outside the area, bending the ball beyond Raya to seal the win. The goal secured United’s first league victory at the Emirates since 2017 and brought an end to Arsenal’s 17-match unbeaten home run.
