Crucial away win for Poznan at Olomouc sends both sides through

Lech Poznan captain Mikael Ishak scored twice in the first half to secure a vital 2–1 victory over Sigma Olomouc in the UEFA Conference League, a result that lifted the visitors to 11th in the league phase and into a seeded play-off position. Despite the defeat, Sigma Olomouc finished 24th and squeezed into the knockout rounds on goals scored.
Both sides entered the final matchday knowing that a top-24 finish was essential, and the importance of the occasion was reflected in a cautious opening. Chances were scarce in the first half hour, with Taofeek Ismaheel’s effort drifting wide of Jan Koutny’s far post the only moment of note.
The breakthrough came with the game’s first shot on target, though it was not without controversy. A Sigma defender was left on the ground after challenging for a high ball that eventually fell to Ishak inside the left side of the penalty area. The Lech skipper showed superb composure, cushioning the ball with his first touch before lifting an unstoppable shot over the advancing Koutny.
Olomouc’s problems deepened soon after when Abdoulaye Sylla committed a clumsy foul in the box, leaving referee Patrik Kolaric with little choice but to award a penalty. Koutny initially redeemed his teammate by saving Luis Palma’s spot-kick, but VAR intervened for encroachment, allowing Ishak to step up and power home the retake.
Ishak had the opportunity to complete his hat-trick early in the second half when another reckless Sylla challenge resulted in a further penalty. This time, however, Koutny guessed correctly, diving to his right to make a strong save and keep his side’s hopes alive.
Moments later, Lech were briefly relieved when a penalty awarded at the other end was overturned by the assistant referee’s raised flag. The Polish side appeared on course for a comfortable finish until Jan Kral headed home from Tihomir Kostadinov’s cross in the 84th minute to set up a tense finale.
Ultimately, Olomouc’s late rally proved too little, too late on the night. Nevertheless, Tomas Janotka’s side did just enough to secure a place in the top 24, while Lech Poznan departed with both the points and a significant boost heading into the play-offs.
