Cooper Flagg scored 23 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a thrilling 116-114 overtime upset over Eastern Conference leaders Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

The 18-year-old number one draft pick dominated on both ends of the court, grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out four assists, recording a steal, and blocking three shots. Six Mavericks players finished in double figures, helping Dallas improve to 11-17 on the season.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 29 points, but the Pistons suffered only their sixth loss of the campaign.

“They’re a great team, with great players, but we stuck with it,” Flagg said. “We competed. We had the lead, they came back, but we stayed consistent and kept fighting.”

Elsewhere, the New York Knicks edged the Indiana Pacers 114-113 in a dramatic finish. Jalen Brunson drilled a 27-foot three-pointer with four seconds remaining, securing a comeback victory in a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals.

The Knicks fell behind early, trailing 35-25 after the first quarter and by as much as 16 in the third, but a strong fourth-quarter surge put them in position for Brunson’s game-winner. Brunson finished with 25 points, while Mikal Bridges added 22. Andrew Nembhard led the Pacers with 31 points.

Despite his heroics, Brunson praised teammate Tyler Kolek, who contributed 16 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds off the bench. “I was garbage at the start of the game,” Brunson admitted. “Then my stint in the second half, I was garbage as well. I want to thank Tyler Kolek for playing the way he’s playing and saving me.”

In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back from their NBA Cup semi-final loss with a 122-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. After trailing by 11 in the first quarter, the Thunder surged in the second and third quarters, capitalizing on 28 Clippers turnovers.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 32 points, while Chet Holmgren added 22. The victory improved the Thunder to 25-2, extending their lead at the top of the Western Conference to 4.5 games over the Denver Nuggets.

Denver, meanwhile, defeated the Orlando Magic 126-115, with Nikola Jokic posting a triple-double of 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists. The Nuggets improved to 20-6 on the season.
