The Malta Billiards and Snooker Association (MBSA) national leagues continued on Friday, 20th February 2026, with a series of high-stakes matches at the Malta Snooker Academy in Ħamrun. The evening was highlighted by dominant performances in the Premier and First Divisions, alongside hard-fought battles in the lower tiers and the Masters league.

Premier League: Farrugia Dominates

In the flagship CE Installations Premier League

John Farrugia delivered a clinical performance to defeat Joseph Cassar with a comprehensive 4-0 scoreline. Farrugia’s victory keeps him in strong contention within the group stages as the 2025/26 season enters its business end.

Lower Divisions: Spiteri and Zammit Shine

The Goliath Coatings First Division saw 

Nicky Spiteri secure a comfortable 3-0 victory over Louis Thompson, showcasing the high standard of play in the secondary tier.

In other divisional results:

  • Second Division: Joseph Attard overcame Geoffrey Sciberras in a competitive match, winning 3-1.
  • Third Division: Anthony Zammit mirrored the Premier League’s dominance with a 3-0 whitewash of Luke D’Amato.

Masters: Cassar Triumphs

In the Masters category, reserved for the association’s veteran players, 

Tony Cassar proved too strong for Carmelo Bonnici

Cassar secured a 3-1 win to bolster his ranking in the veteran circuit.

Performance Highlights

While the evening featured several tactical battles, scoring remained consistent across the board. Notably, several players involved on Friday have been among the top break-builders this season, with 

John Farrugia maintaining an impressive record of breaks over 50 (including a season-best of 96).
