Michael Carrick insists Manchester United are “hungry for more” after overseeing a dramatic turnaround that has reignited their hopes of returning to the Champions League.

United climbed to third in the Premier League with Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace — their sixth win in seven matches since Carrick was appointed manager on an interim basis in mid-January.

No team has picked up more points than the Red Devils in that period, and they will look to extend their impressive run when they travel to face Newcastle on Wednesday.

With English clubs performing strongly in European competitions this season, a top-five finish is expected to be enough to secure Champions League qualification. United currently sit six points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, but Carrick is determined to keep his squad focused.

“We certainly won’t get carried away,” he said on Tuesday. “You’ve got to feed off the confidence and understand that runs like this are hard to come by.

“But we’re hungry for more, for sure. We want to make it last as long as possible and stay consistent.”

The former United midfielder stressed the importance of remaining grounded as the club chase a return to Europe’s top competition for the first time since the 2023/24 campaign.

“I think we’re in a good position and we’ve earned it,” Carrick said. “The players have earned it, and now we’ve got to make the most of it.”

He also praised the squad’s balance of quality and character.

“Talent-wise and ability-wise, the boys have shown what they can do. But it’s also about good habits, good behaviours, and looking after each other in the moments when you’ve really got to dig in.

“That spirit and togetherness have been vital. I can’t speak highly enough of the players.”

United’s resurgence has revived belief at Old Trafford — but Carrick’s message is clear: the job is far from finished.
