Busy day for Malta as wins and losses mark Nations Cup campaign

The Maltese national blackball teams had an intensive day on the second day of the Nations Cup 2026, currently being held in Gibraltar, with varied results across different categories.
The Men’s A team made a positive start when they defeated Scotland 14-11, in a match where the Maltese showed good control and accuracy in the decisive final frames. However, in their second match against Ireland, Malta faced stronger opposition and lost 16-9, with their opponents showing greater consistency throughout the encounter.
Meanwhile, the Men’s B team had a very busy day, playing three matches. Their first encounter against Northern Ireland ended in a narrow 13-12 defeat in a very balanced match. However, the team bounced back impressively against Mexico with a dominant 21-4 victory, one of the standout performances of the day. Later on, Malta lost to Wales 15-10.
The Seniors A team also had an action-packed day. They suffered a narrow 13-12 defeat against Scotland but responded with a convincing 16-9 win over Catalonia.
In the U23 A category, Malta lost 14-11 to Wales despite a competitive performance, with the match remaining open until the final frames.
