Victoria Hotspurs have secured their place as the first finalists of the 2025/26 BOV Amateur Cup after a grueling 1-0 victory over Mqabba in the opening semi-final at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.

Late Drama at Ta’ Qali

The encounter proved to be a tightly contested affair, with neither side able to break the deadlock during the initial 90 minutes of play. As fatigue set in during extra time, the Gozitan side finally found the breakthrough.

The match-winning moment arrived in the 118th minute—thirteen minutes into the second half of extra time—when 

Kurt Borg found the back of the net to seal the victory for the Hotspurs.

Defending Champions on the March

Victoria Hotspurs, who are the reigning Amateur Cup holders after winning the 2024/25 title, continue their quest for back-to-back domestic cup triumphs. Their path to the 2026 final included a dramatic penalty shootout win over Qrendi earlier in the competition.

The identity of the Hotspurs’ opponent for the grand final, scheduled for 10 May 2026, will be decided on Wednesday evening.
