Brazil has confirmed its intention to bid for the 2029 Club World Cup, following talks between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and FIFA president Gianni Infantino, according to Brazilian Football Confederation chief Samir Xaud.

The announcement came after a high-level meeting at the Planalto Palace in Brasília, attended by Sports Minister André Fufuca and national team head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

“We are confident that Brazil has the ability to host an event of this magnitude, although it will require careful planning and extensive discussions,” Xaud told state news agency Agência Brasil. “Brazil will formally put forward its bid for the 2029 tournament.”

FIFA has not yet opened the official bidding process for the competition. The newly expanded Club World Cup was staged for the first time in the United States last year, with Chelsea lifting the trophy. Spain, Morocco and Qatar are also expected to express interest in hosting the event.

Although Spain, Morocco and Portugal will jointly stage the 2030 World Cup, the Club World Cup host selection is handled separately. This represents a shift from previous approaches, when tournaments such as the Confederations Cup were often used as preparatory events for the World Cup.

Infantino’s visit to Brazil also coincided with preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which the country will host for the first time. FIFA recently unveiled the tournament’s official branding, ahead of the competition featuring 32 teams between June and July.
