BOV Challenge League: Taylon Hat-trick as St. Andrews Stun Leaders Balzan

The BOV Challenge League Top 8 burst wide open this Sunday, February 22, 2026, as St. Andrews produced the shock of the season by dismantling league leaders Balzan 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
The protagonist of the afternoon was undoubtedly Taylon, who put in a clinical performance to dismantle the Balzan defence. He opened the scoring in the 13th minute and doubled the Saints’ advantage in the 33rd. Taylon completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute, effectively ending the contest. While Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya pulled one back for Balzan from the penalty spot in the 69th minute, Caua restored the three-goal cushion three minutes from time to seal a famous victory.
Melita Draw Level at the Top
Balzan’s slip-up was expertly capitalised on by Melita, who moved level on points at the summit following a -0 win over Sirens at the Centenary Stadium. Zak Grech gave the Amateurs the lead in the 19th minute, and the points were made safe just after the hour mark when Jesus Yepez found the net (61’).
Birzebbuga and Swieqi Keep Pace
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s maintained their promotion charge with a 3-1 victory over Fgura United. The Saints took an early lead through an Alex Bruno penalty (2’) and doubled their advantage via Duvan Mosquera in the 23rd minute. Leo Aguis made it 3-0 early in the second half (47’), with Samuel Buhagiar scoring a late consolation for Fgura in stoppage time.
Meanwhile, at the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United proved too strong for Pieta’ Hotspurs, securing a 3-1 win. Isaac Davey was the star for the Owls, netting in the 14th minute and again in the 70th. Kian Leonardi also got on the scoresheet with a penalty on the stroke of half-time (45’). Gabriel Nazareno Mannino scored for Pieta’ in the 74th minute, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
