BOV Challenge League: Melita survive Marsa comeback scare to go third; Birżebbuġa Lead Maintained

Melita secured a vital 3-2 victory over Marsa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday, climbing to third place in the BOV Challenge League standings. The win ensures the title race remains tight as leaders Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s and second-placed Balzan also registered points over the weekend.
Early Blitz Secures Melita Points
Melita came flying out of the blocks, effectively putting the game beyond Marsa’s reach within the first 15 minutes. Alec Sladden opened the scoring just two minutes in. Three minutes later, Jean Pierre Attard doubled the lead, and Quadri Olanshile Allionida made it 3-0 in the 13th minute.
Marsa showed resilience in the second half, attempting a comeback through a brace from Dor Jok, who scored in the 64th and 79th minutes. However, Melita held on to claim the narrow 3-2 victory.
Elsewhere in the League
At the same venue, Żurrieq were held to a 1-1 draw by Mtarfa. Glamour Eziefula Chibueze gave Żurrieq an early lead in the fourth minute, but Luke Camilleri responded ten minutes later to share the points.
Over at the Centenary Stadium, Santa Lucia and Żebbuġ Rangers played out a goalless stalemate. In another closely fought encounter, Fgura United and Gudja United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Joseph Chilaka Agbakwuru put Gudja ahead on five minutes, only for Dylan Caruana to equalize for Fgura in the 32nd minute.

Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s maintain their position at the top of the table, followed closely by Balzan. Melita’s win sees them draw level on points with Fgura in the top four race.
