BOV Challenge Cup Quarter-Final Draw Sets Stage for Malta-Gozo Showdowns

The road to the final of the BOV Challenge Cup has been mapped out following the quarter-final draw held on Friday, 6th March, at Centenary Hall. Conducted by Malta FA Match Operations Manager Stewart Said, the draw has produced a series of compelling fixtures that highlight the unique cross-island format of this year’s competition.
A Unified Footballing Vision
This season’s tournament featured a total of 23 clubs, marking a significant evolution as the BOV Challenge League sides were joined by teams from the Gozo Football League First Division. This initiative, launched in partnership with VisitGozo, aims to unite the footballing communities of Malta and Gozo, providing fans with rare competitive encounters between the islands’ top clubs.
The Quarter-Final Pairings
The draw resulted in a perfect blend of tactical battles, featuring one all-Malta clash, one all-Gozo derby, and two inter-island showdowns:
- Pietà Hotspurs vs Melita: A high-profile encounter between two of the Challenge League’s most consistent performers.
- Gudja United vs Xewkija Tigers: A fascinating test for Gudja as they face one of Gozo’s most decorated clubs.
- Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s vs Kerċem Ajax: Fresh off their 3-0 win over Marsa on Thursday, Birżebbuġa will now look to overcome the Gozitan challenge of Kerċem.
- SK Victoria Wanderers vs Xagħra United: A guaranteed Gozitan presence in the semi-finals is secured through this local derby.
The Road to the Final
The tournament bracket is now set, with the winners of the first two matches facing off in the first semi-final, while the winners of matches three and four will battle for the second spot in the final.
The inclusion of the Gozitan sides has added a fresh layer of unpredictability to the cup, with the prospect of an all-Gozo or a Malta-Gozo final still very much on the cards.
