Bormla Subbuteo Club successfully organized the first International Open of 2025, attracting 28 players competing across three categories: Open, Veterans, and Under 20. The event welcomed eight Italian participants from the clubs of Messina, Basilicata, and Sombrero, adding strong international flavour to the competition. A team tournament was also held, featuring two squads from Bormla SC and one from Sombrero, after no other Maltese clubs registered.

Open Category: Mark Gauci Claims the Title

In the Individual Open Category, Mark Gauci of Valletta SC emerged victorious, defeating Jean Carl Tabone of Bormla SC with a convincing 3–1 score in the final. The semi finalists were George Ebejer of Bormla SC and Torboli from Sombrero. Gauci and Tabone secured their place in the final by winning their respective matches 2–1 and 3–2, showcasing high level tactical play throughout the tournament.

Veterans Category: Charlie Aquilina Triumphs

The Veterans Category was won by Charlie Aquilina of Bormla SC, who defeated Mario Camilleri from Crimson Horses of Greece 2–1 in a tightly contested final. The semi finalists, Cassanova and Collela from Sombrero, pushed the competition to a very competitive standard. Aquilina and Camilleri advanced to the final with wins of 3–0 and 1–0 respectively.

Under-20 Category: Sani Edges Narrow Victory

In the Under-20 Category, Sani of Sombrero took the top prize, finishing just one goal ahead of runner-up Robert Farrugia Randon of H’Attard SC. The level of competition was exceptionally high, with the title decided by the narrowest of margins.

Teams Event: Bormla SC Dominates

Bormla SC claimed the top honours in the Teams Category, winning the final 4–0 against their own second team. The competition followed a round-robin format among three teams, with the top two advancing. Bormla SC A defeated Bormla SC B 3–0 and beat Sombrero 4–0, while Bormla SC B secured their place in the final after a 2–1 win over Sombrero.

The trophy presentation was carried out by the Mayor of Bormla, Mr. Marco Agius, who congratulated the athletes for their dedication and sportsmanship.

Upcoming Commitments

Bormla SC now looks ahead to their upcoming international engagements. Their next stop will be in Italy for the Mayor of Bologna tournament at the beginning of December. The club will then kick off the year 2026 in the United Kingdom for the Yorkshire International Open. Shortly after, on January 10–11, Bormla SC will host the second International Open of the year, proudly maintaining their position at the top of the FISTF Teams World Ranking for an impressive 17 consecutive months.
