Bormla Subbuteo Club enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the Yorkshire International Open, achieving remarkable success in both the individual and team competitions.

In Saturday’s Individual competition, David Bermudez Gonzalez of Bormla Subbuteo Club claimed the Yorkshire International Open title after a thrilling 4–2 victory in the final against club-mate George Ebejer, in a field of 52 players. Gonzalez reached the final by comfortably defeating Frenchman Remi Soret 4–0 in the semi-final, while Ebejer secured his place in the final with a solid 2–0 win over Belgian player Olivier Pere.

Further success followed in the Silver Shield category, where another Bormla player emerged victorious. Sixteen-year-old Gabriel Ebejer showed great composure to defeat Brendan Ashley 1–0, adding another trophy to the club’s impressive haul.

Attention then turned to the teams competition, where Bormla Subbuteo Club once again demonstrated their dominance. The team clinched the International Open title with a two-goal advantage after the final ended in a 2–2 draw. On their route to success, Bormla topped Group A with a 4–0 victory over Yorkshire Phoenix of England and a 3–0 win against Hennuyer B. In the semi-finals, they overcame Yorkshire Phoenix A with a convincing 3–0 result.

The victorious Bormla team was composed of David Bermudez Gonzalez, George Ebejer, Josef Camilleri, and two young athletes aged 16 and 18 respectively, Gabriel Ebejer and Thomas Ebejer, both of whom were named in the first team.

With this international success, Bormla Subbuteo Club have started the year on a very positive note and will continue to enjoy first place in the FISTF World Teams Rankings for a remarkable 19 consecutive months. The Yorkshire International Open concluded with Bormla Subbuteo Club collecting an impressive total of three gold medals and one silver.
