Bologna reignited their push for a top-six finish with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, extending the hosts’ winless run to five matches (D1, L4).

The Rossoblù had struggled for form in recent weeks, failing to win any of their previous five Serie A outings, and their early dominance in possession initially counted for little. Verona struck first after 13 minutes when Gift Orban finished off a rapid counterattack, drilling a precise effort from the edge of the box into the bottom-right corner.

The hosts’ advantage was short-lived. Bologna responded within 10 minutes through Riccardo Orsolini, whose superb strike curled into the top-left corner to restore parity.

That goal shifted the momentum firmly in Bologna’s favour, and they soon edged ahead. Jens Odgaard produced a composed finish from just outside the area, sending a left-footed effort into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-1.

Verona’s problems deepened just before half-time as Bologna struck again. Santiago Castro unleashed a powerful shot from inside the penalty area that beat Lorenzo Montipò, giving the visitors a commanding two-goal cushion at the break.

The second half opened at a far slower pace, with Bologna content to control possession and limit risks. Neither side managed a shot in the opening 15 minutes after the restart, but the match sprang back to life midway through the half.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Verona were handed a lifeline when Remo Freuler inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, cutting Bologna’s lead to one and setting up a nervy finale.

Verona pressed hard for an equaliser and tested Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia on several occasions, but the visitors held firm to secure all three points.

The defeat leaves Verona rooted to the bottom of the table, four points adrift within the relegation zone. Bologna, meanwhile, move to within four points of sixth place, although Como have a game in hand ahead of their meeting with Milan later in the evening.
