Betis keep Europa League streak alive in clash with Dinamo Zagreb

Real Betis extended their unbeaten UEFA Europa League (UEL) run to six matches (W3, D3) with a confident 3–1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
The match opened at a cautious tempo, with neither side carving out clear danger in the first quarter of an hour. Betis began to show signs of life when Antony picked out Cedric Bakambu with an inventive outside-of-the-boot pass that was inches from opening Dinamo up, followed soon after by Sergi Altimira testing goalkeeper Ivan Filipović with a troublesome long-range strike.
Dinamo, set up in a compact 4-5-1, kept Betis at bay for long stretches and looked to hit on the break through the energetic wide runs of Dejan Ljubičić and Fran Topić. But the pressure eventually told. Filipović produced a sharp save to deny Abde Ezzalzouli, only for disaster to strike moments later when Sergi Domínguez inadvertently diverted Rodrigo Riquelme’s speculative cross into his own net.
The visitors immediately capitalized. Barely a minute later, Bakambu slipped Riquelme through with a perfectly weighted ball, and the Spaniard calmly sat the keeper down to double Betis’ advantage. Dinamo were then punished again when Filipović rushed out of his area and was caught stranded, allowing Antony to loft the ball into an unguarded net for 3–0.
Dinamo came out of the interval with more intent, helped by the lively introduction of 17-year-old Cardoso Varela, who caused problems down Betis’ right flank. The hosts managed to apply more pressure in the opening minutes of the second half than they had before the break, but Betis still threatened on the counter. Ezzalzouli nearly added another when a deflection almost looped beyond Filipović, while captain Josip Mišić’s fierce long-range drive narrowly missed the far post in his final act of the evening.
As the match wound down, the tempo dropped and chances became scarce. Dinamo finally found a late breakthrough in the 89th minute when Niko Galešić fired in a consolation goal, though it did little to alter the overall picture of their recent form—just one point from their last four UEL outings.
Betis, meanwhile, celebrated a milestone. Their triumph in Zagreb marked the club’s eighth consecutive European match without defeat (W5, D3), the longest such streak in their history.
