Bardghji’s early promise stalls amid limited game time at Barcelona

Roony Bardghji heads into this weekend’s LaLiga clash with Real Betis under mounting scrutiny, with the young winger slipping further from Hansi Flick’s plans at Barcelona. Early speculation has already emerged suggesting the club may consider cutting ties sooner than expected.
After a bright introduction at Camp Nou, Bardghji’s momentum has stalled. In recent weeks, the Swedish prospect has fallen almost completely out of Flick’s rotation, leaving his future increasingly uncertain.
The numbers from November tell the story. Across the entire month, Bardghji logged just nine minutes of action — excluding stoppage time. Seven of those minutes came in the 3-3 Champions League draw against Club Brugge, with the remainder in a brief LaLiga outing against Elche. He hasn’t touched the pitch since that European fixture, racking up five straight competitive matches without playing a single minute.
It’s a stark contrast to the excitement surrounding his arrival. Barcelona brought him in after more than a year of scouting, convinced he was one of the standout emerging talents in Scandinavian football.
Flick initially turned to Bardghji as an energetic, fearless spark off the bench early in the campaign. But as the season has worn on, the German coach has looked elsewhere for options in attack, truncating the youngster’s opportunities.
The situation has drawn inevitable comparisons with Yusuf Demir — the Austrian winger who burst briefly into the spotlight under Ronald Koeman before seeing his minutes disappear and his loan spell abruptly cut short in January.
Inside the club, some are already voicing concern that Bardghji could be sliding toward the same fate if the current trend continues. Saturday’s match against Betis may serve as another key indicator of where he stands. Should he once again remain unused, it will only strengthen the growing belief that his role in the squad has diminished dramatically.
