UEFA has dismissed a complaint from FC Barcelona regarding the officiating in their 2-0 home defeat to Atlético Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, the governing body confirmed on Tuesday.

Barcelona had appealed for a penalty during the match, arguing that Atlético goalkeeper Juan Musso put the ball back into play from a goal kick before Marc Pubill handled it inside the six-yard box to take it again.

Referee István Kovács allowed play to continue, and the VAR team did not advise a review.

Barcelona formally lodged a protest on Thursday, but UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body ruled the complaint inadmissible.

In a statement, UEFA said: “Following the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg played on 8 April 2026 between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona submitted a protest concerning a refereeing decision. On 13 April 2026, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body declared the protest inadmissible.”
