Arsenal stay perfect in Europe as Gabriel Jesus nets twice

A brace from Gabriel Jesus inspired Arsenal to a landmark European night as the Gunners recorded their longest-ever European Cup winning streak with a 3–1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro, securing a seventh straight UEFA Champions League win.
Arsenal took to the pitch already assured of automatic qualification for the last 16 following Manchester City’s surprise defeat to Bodø/Glimt earlier in the evening, but Mikel Arteta’s side showed no signs of easing off. They started with purpose and were rewarded with a deserved opener after 10 minutes.
Jesus finished from close range with a sliding effort after Jurrien Timber’s initial attempt ricocheted into his path, capping a flowing team move. The goal marked Arsenal’s 400th in European Cup competition, though their advantage was short-lived.
Just eight minutes later, Inter were level. After attempts from Marcus Thuram and Nicolò Barella were blocked, the loose ball fell perfectly for Petar Sučić, who rifled a superb right-footed strike past an unsighted David Raya.
Arsenal’s defence looked unusually open at times, and Inter should have taken the lead when Thuram blasted over the bar following a rapid counterattack. That miss proved costly, as the visitors regained control before the break.
Jesus struck again shortly before half-time, nodding home from close range after Leandro Trossard headed Bukayo Saka’s corner back across the face of goal to restore Arsenal’s lead.
The Gunners returned after the interval intent on extending their advantage. Yann Sommer was forced into a sharp save to deny Eberechi Eze, while Trossard dragged a left-footed volley narrowly wide of the far post.
Inter head coach Cristian Chivu attempted to spark a response by introducing Pio Esposito, who went close when he met a pass from Luis Henrique but fired just wide.
Any lingering hope of a comeback was extinguished late on when Arsenal added a third. Viktor Gyökeres completed a slick move, exchanging passes with Saka after Gabriel Martinelli’s excellent long ball before finishing clinically to seal an impressive away win.
The result extends Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 12 matches in all competitions (10 wins, two draws) and guarantees them a top-two finish in the Champions League league phase. For Inter, however, defeat leaves their top-eight hopes hanging by a thread, as they suffer three consecutive Champions League losses for the first time since 2011.
