Arsenal bounce back with comprehensive win over Leeds

Noni Madueke, originally not slated to start, proved decisive as Arsenal ran out 4-0 winners over Leeds United in the Premier League, extending their head-to-head dominance over the Whites to eight consecutive victories.
Mikel Arteta suffered an early setback when Bukayo Saka was forced out with an injury during the warm-up, but the Gunners quickly imposed themselves at Elland Road. Leeds started with intensity, with Ethan Ampadu blasting a shot over the crossbar, and Martin Zubimendi firing the game’s first on-target effort in the 16th minute, comfortably held by Karl Darlow.
Arsenal gradually turned the screw, applying relentless pressure through corners, long throws, and open-play deliveries into the Leeds box. Their persistence paid off in the 27th minute, when Zubimendi headed home a pinpoint cross from Madueke. The Gunners continued to dominate, though they were briefly denied further by fine goalkeeping and missed opportunities, including when Viktor Gyokeres’ header from a Madueke corner went begging.
Arsenal’s control was reaffirmed in the 38th minute, when Darlow inadvertently turned another Madueke delivery off the post into his own net, doubling the visitors’ advantage.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke made a double substitution at halftime, and the hosts briefly lifted their intensity. Pascal Struijk marked their first shot on target of the match with a header, while Joe Rodon produced a crucial defensive block against Gyokeres. Jurrien Timber also saw a header go wide and was booked for handling Gabriel Gudmundsson, highlighting Leeds’ fighting spirit.
However, the visitors sealed the victory in the 69th minute as Gyokeres met Gabriel Martinelli’s precise cross to beat Jayden Bogle and score his first Premier League goal in seven appearances. Gabriel Jesus later added a late flourish in the 86th minute, calmly finishing past Struijk to complete the 4-0 rout.
The win saw Arsenal bounce back from consecutive winless league games and temporarily extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points. Leeds suffered their first defeat in four matches across all competitions, leaving them six points clear of the relegation zone.
