Arne Slot: Alexis Mac Allister is finding his best form for Liverpool

Arne Slot believes Alexis Mac Allister is rediscovering his top form after the midfielder’s dramatic last-gasp winner at Nottingham Forest.
Mac Allister struck deep into stoppage time at the City Ground on Sunday, securing a 1-0 victory for the Premier League champions. The Argentina international pounced on a loose ball from close range, just minutes after a VAR decision had ruled out an earlier goal.
“I think what he needed is exactly what he’s shown over the last six, seven, eight games — a run where he’s getting back to the level he displayed so often last season,” Slot said.
The Dutch manager added: “He had that level in the first half of the season too, but it fluctuated as the team’s performances went up and down. Recently, I see much more consistency — not only in Macca’s performances but across the team and many individual players.
“Of course, it’s always special for a player to score, especially in extra time.”
Liverpool, currently just outside the Champions League spots on goal difference following a difficult run of results, were boosted by the win. Slot said: “We needed this goal, we needed this win to be on the right side of things because we’ve been so unlucky this season. For the first time, at least it felt to me, we’ve had a bit of luck.”
