Amorim Claims Brighton Victory Surpassed Man Utd’s Famous Win at Liverpool

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim believes his team’s 4–2 victory over Brighton was a more complete performance — and ultimately more important — than last week’s dramatic win at Anfield.
A brace from Bryan Mbeumo and goals from Matheus Cunha and Casemiro secured United’s third consecutive Premier League win, their first such run since August 2024 — before Amorim took charge.
Despite some tense late moments as Brighton mounted a comeback, United held firm to follow up their first victory at Liverpool since 2016 and move up to fourth in the table.
“The players understood really well what to do in every moment,” Amorim said after the match. “We had to suffer a bit at the end, but it wouldn’t be United without a bit of suffering.
I think this was a more complete performance than at Liverpool. You could say Liverpool didn’t deserve to win that game — though we did deserve to win it.
Today, we did everything. When it’s like this, I feel more complete as a manager. I actually like this win more than last week.”
Amorim reserved special praise for Cunha, who netted his first goal for the club, and Mbeumo, whose tireless display underlined his growing influence.
“Cunha feels more confident when the game is difficult,” Amorim noted. “I really liked how he defended today — he wasn’t jumping into every challenge. With the ball, I have no concerns about him at all. He was frustrated about not scoring, but now everyone can see his quality.”
“Mbeumo is a machine — he works so hard and is brilliant in transitions. His connection with Amad Diallo is developing well; those two are so fast and so dangerous one-on-one.”
The win extended Amorim’s impressive start at Old Trafford and further strengthened United’s momentum as they push for a top-four finish.
