Atalanta make it three in a row with Torino victory

Atalanta continued their impressive run of form by claiming a 2-0 victory over Torino in Bergamo, marking their ninth win in 11 matches across all competitions and keeping them firmly in the hunt for European qualification in Serie A.
The hosts made an ideal start, opening the scoring after just 13 minutes. Charles De Ketelaere met Lorenzo Bernasconi’s corner at the near post, deftly flicking the ball into the net to register his first league goal since September.
Atalanta looked keen to build on that early breakthrough and remained dangerous from set pieces. Nikola Krstović, fresh from scoring twice against Bologna in midweek, came close to doubling the lead when he headed narrowly over from a free-kick. Alberto Paleari was then forced into a fine save to deny Nicola Zalewski, as La Dea continued to apply sustained pressure.
Torino were far from passive and created opportunities of their own before the interval. Gvidas Gineitis fired just over the bar, while Guillermo Maripán tested Marco Carnesecchi with a powerful close-range effort that required an excellent save. Still, the visitors went into the break trailing, extending a trend that has seen none of Atalanta’s last six matches produce more than one first-half goal.
The home side nearly struck again early in the second half, with Davide Zappacosta hitting the outside of the post as Atalanta pushed for a second goal. Despite their control, the margin remained slim, and Carnesecchi was called into action once more, producing a superb reflex save to deny Maripán after a loose ball fell kindly from a corner.
The Atalanta goalkeeper continued to impress, smothering Giovanni Simeone’s effort from close range before getting down smartly to keep out Emirhan İlkhan’s goalbound header. Torino’s resistance was finally broken in the dying moments, though, when Mario Pašalić timed his late run perfectly and finished with the final kick of the game to seal the points.
The win leaves Atalanta seventh in the table but now just three points adrift of the top six, while Torino missed the chance to record three consecutive away wins in Serie A for the first time since May 2023 and drop to 12th in the standings.
