Malta captain Matthew Guillaumier has completed a return to Ħamrun Spartans, marking his comeback to Maltese football following a short spell abroad.

The 26-year-old midfielder had been without a club in recent weeks after parting ways with Greek Super League side Panseirrakos, whom he joined at the start of the 2025/26 season. During his time in Greece, Guillaumier made eight league appearances and featured once in the domestic cup.

Prior to his move to Panseirrakos, Guillaumier spent two seasons in Poland’s Ekstraklasa with Stal Mielec, where he was a regular presence in midfield, amassing 67 appearances, five goals and five assists.

The Malta international is no stranger to Ħamrun Spartans, having previously represented the club between 2020 and 2022 before returning again for the 2022/23 campaign. Across his spells with the Spartans, Guillaumier has registered 11 goals and 11 assists in 68 appearances.

He played a key role in Ħamrun’s recent success, helping the club secure two Maltese Premier League titles and reach the play-off round of the UEFA Conference League.

Ħamrun are keen to bolster their midfield options during the January transfer window as part of a wider squad overhaul aimed at retaining their Maltese Premier League crown. Guillaumier becomes the second midfielder to join the club this month, following the arrival of Danilo Bulevardi.
