The Hotspurs, looking to bounce back from a heavy FA Trophy defeat to Ħamrun Spartans, found their footing against a Xgħajra side coming off a positive 4-2 victory over Senglea Athletic.

The match began with early opportunities for both sides. Xgħajra had two chances within the first 11 minutes through free-kicks and shots that sailed over the bar.
