Victoria Hotspurs Secure 2-0 Victory Over Xgħajra Tornados

Victoria Hotspurs secured valuable points in the National Amateur League I with a 2-0 mid-week win over Xgħajra Tornados. The Hotspurs, looking to bounce back from a heavy FA Trophy defeat to Ħamrun Spartans, found their footing against a Xgħajra side coming off a positive 4-2 victory over Senglea Athletic.
The match began with early opportunities for both sides. Xgħajra had two chances within the first 11 minutes through free-kicks and shots that sailed over the bar. Victoria responded swiftly on 13 minutes when Christian Mercieca was denied by the crossbar, and his follow-up effort was saved by Xgħajra keeper Miguel Abela.
After a brief flurry of action, the game settled into a quieter phase, with both teams creating only speculative chances as halftime approached.
The turning point came in the second half. Victoria broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Kurt Borg played a sharp one-two; his initial shot was blocked, but he made no mistake with the rebound, smashing the ball into the net.
Xgħajra attempted to rally, but their efforts were quickly nullified. Victoria effectively sealed the victory in the 70th minute when Rondinely Monteiro scored with a precise, low effort.
The Hotspurs maintained control for the remainder of the match, creating further opportunities but ultimately settling for a comfortable 2-0 win, emerging as easy winners on the day.
