Roma consider January move for Man Utd forward Joshua Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, even in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s surprise departure from the Old Trafford dugout.
A move to AS Roma continues to be a genuine possibility.
The Dutch forward has endured a frustrating spell since joining United from Bologna in 2024, struggling to establish himself as a regular starter and becoming increasingly open to the idea of a January exit.
This season has proven challenging for both player and club, with Zirkzee quietly but steadily working behind the scenes to explore his options and push for a move away.
Roma emerged as the strongest suitors throughout December and are now closely monitoring developments in Manchester, aware that internal discussions at Old Trafford will be crucial in determining whether a deal can progress.
However, there is growing concern in Italy that United’s managerial change could complicate matters. Roma fear the club may decide the 24-year-old deserves an extended opportunity under new leadership, potentially closing the door on a winter transfer.
As a result, the Serie A side have kept alternative targets under consideration.
Despite that uncertainty, sources close to the situation insist Zirkzee remains firmly attracted to the idea of a move to the Italian capital. Flashscore understands the player has privately indicated that his stance has not changed and that he would welcome a transfer if the opportunity arises.
Roma temporarily paused contact in the immediate aftermath of Amorim’s exit, allowing the situation to settle. Nevertheless, they have been aware for over a month of Zirkzee’s willingness to make the switch, and have recently been informed that a deal could still be viable—should the player be granted his wish.
Manchester United face Burnley later today, after which attention at Old Trafford is expected to turn back to key internal matters, including shaping the squad for the remainder of the season.
For now, no final decision has been made, but the door to Rome remains ajar for Zirkzee. Roma are hopeful that clarity will soon emerge and that the forward will still be permitted to make the move.
