Challenge League side Swieqi produced a memorable upset as they defeated Malta Premier team Sliema 2-1 after extra time to progress to the Round of 16 of the Meridianbet FA Trophy.

Swieqi took a deserved late lead when Isaac Thomas James Davey opened the scoring eight minutes from full time, putting the underdogs on the verge of qualification. However, Sliema looked to have forced extra time when Roko Prša struck an equaliser three minutes into injury time.

Extra time proved dramatic, with discipline issues costing Sliema dearly. Miguel Baggio Cover was sent off in the 98th minute after receiving a second yellow card, leaving his side with ten men. Their situation worsened when Jean Borg was shown a straight red card just two minutes into the first-half injury time of extra time, reducing Sliema to nine players.

With penalties looming, Swieqi made their numerical advantage count. Samuel Okoh netted the decisive goal three minutes into over time of extra time, sealing qualification and sparking celebrations for the Challenge League outfit.

The result marks a significant achievement for Swieqi, who knock out top-flight opposition and continue their impressive run in the competition, while Sliema bow out after a night to forget.
