Wolves overpower West Ham to claim long-awaited first victory

After 20 attempts, Wolves finally secured their first Premier League win of the season, thrashing fellow strugglers West Ham United 3–0 at Molineux and extending the visitors’ winless run to nine matches.
Rob Edwards’ side carried the momentum from Tuesday’s 1–1 draw at Manchester United into this match, flying out of the traps and taking the lead in just the fourth minute. Mateus Mane cleverly evaded pressure in midfield to release Hwang Hee-chan down the left. Hwang drove to the byline and cut the ball back to Jhon Arias, who slid home his first Wolves goal to the delight of the home crowd.
West Ham, known this season for rescuing eight points from losing positions, offered little response. A lack of quality in the final third repeatedly undermined their efforts, leaving their traveling supporters in disbelief.
The hosts doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when Soungoutou Magassa brought down Mane in the box. Hwang, who had missed a penalty against West Ham earlier in the season, made no mistake this time, calmly converting from 12 yards. Wolves’ fans even cheekily chanted in support of former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, while Alphonse Areola kept West Ham in the game momentarily with a sharp save to deny Tolu Arokodare.
Before halftime, Wolves made it 3–0 as Mane capped a superb performance. The 18-year-old cut in from the left and fired a precise strike into the near bottom corner for his first senior goal, prompting a mass exodus in the away end.
Despite a double substitution at halftime, West Ham struggled to respond. Jarrod Bowen’s acrobatic effort went over the bar, Hugo Bueno was denied by Areola, and Jorgen Strand Larsen headed wide. Mane also tested Areola from distance, but the Wolves defense held firm.
Although Wolves did not add to their lead in the second half, ending a five-match losing run at Molineux marks a perfect start to 2026 for Edwards’ men.
For West Ham, the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo intensifies. The Hammers remain four points above the relegation zone, with a crunch fixture against 17th-placed Nottingham Forest next on the calendar.
