Liverpool’s four-match winning run came to an end as they were held to a goalless Premier League draw by Leeds United at Anfield, a result that also brought the Reds’ 20-game scoring streak in the fixture to a halt.

Leeds showed no signs of being overawed by the occasion, confidently taking the game to Liverpool in the early stages. However, their approach rarely tested Alisson Becker — perhaps unsurprising given that leading scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin began the match on the bench.

The visitors circulated possession well, but it was Liverpool who nearly struck first against the run of play. Lucas Perri spilled a Hugo Ekitiké effort, only to recover in time, and that moment sparked a spell of sustained pressure from Arne Slot’s side as the half wore on.

Despite that, Leeds’ back five remained resolute. Their deep defensive line continued to frustrate Liverpool, though it also limited their own attacking threat and invited wave after wave of pressure from the hosts.

Leeds were handed a golden opportunity shortly before the break when a loose Alisson clearance fell straight to Ethan Ampadu. With the goal gaping, the midfielder could not capitalise, sending a tame effort straight back to the Brazilian goalkeeper. Moments later, Liverpool squandered an even clearer chance of their own as Ekitiké somehow headed wide from close range.

Liverpool went into half-time on top, and the second half opened with both sides battling intensely for control. Jeremie Frimpong’s energy down one flank was matched by Ilia Gruev, while Andrew Robertson and James Justin were locked in a physical duel on the opposite side.

The match struggled to find rhythm, with clear-cut chances few and far between. Virgil van Dijk came closest for Liverpool, glancing a powerful header narrowly wide, before late efforts from Ekitiké and Cody Gakpo failed to seriously trouble Perri.

Leeds remained largely comfortable, if occasionally disjointed. When Calvert-Lewin finally found the net late on, Anfield was briefly stunned — only for the offside flag to immediately come to Liverpool’s rescue.

The hosts were unable to take advantage of that reprieve and had to settle for a draw, meaning they have now lost just one of the last 16 meetings between the sides (W10, D5). Leeds, meanwhile, remain without an away league win this season outside of their success at Wolves, but extend their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions.
