Brooks Koepka officially departs LIV Golf citing family commitments

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has officially departed LIV Golf, citing family reasons, the Saudi-backed tour announced Tuesday.
The decision follows a difficult period for Koepka and his wife, Jena Sims, who revealed in October that she had experienced a miscarriage at 16 weeks. His representatives confirmed that the 35-year-old is choosing to spend more time with his family.
Koepka, known for back-to-back U.S. Open victories in 2017 and 2018, was one of the most high-profile players to join LIV Golf when it launched in 2022. U.S. reports now suggest a potential return to the PGA Tour could be on the horizon.
“We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer compete in the LIV Golf League following the 2025 season,” LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said in a statement. “Brooks is prioritizing the needs of his family and staying closer to home. We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course.”
Koepka’s representatives added, “Family has always guided Brooks’s decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home. Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success.”
Under current regulations, LIV Golf players must serve a one-year suspension before returning to the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour, for its part, offered a neutral response regarding a possible timeline for Koepka’s return.
“Brooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success,” the PGA Tour said in a statement to ESPN. “The PGA Tour continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging, and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness.”
