Bellingham and Mbappé strike as Real Madrid defeat 10-man Sevilla

Real Madrid claimed their third win in a week, easing pressure on manager Xabi Alonso with a 2-0 home victory over Sevilla in LaLiga. The result extends Sevilla’s winless streak at the Santiago Bernabéu to 19 matches.
Knowing how crucial the opening goal has been this season—Real have won all 11 league matches in which they scored first—both sides were eager early on. Within the first seven minutes, Rodrygo and Alexis Sánchez delivered defence-splitting passes, but Fran García saw his shot blocked by Odysseas Vlachodimos, and Isaac Romero’s lofted effort drifted agonizingly wide of Thibaut Courtois’ goal.
Sevilla kept the pressure on, yet Real had the next real chance when Kylian Mbappé flashed a shot across goal from a tight angle around the 17th minute. Dean Huijsen later headed a corner over the bar, and it seemed the first half might end goalless—until the 38th minute. Rodrygo delivered a precise free-kick from the right, and Jude Bellingham rose highest to head Los Blancos into the lead.
Sevilla’s Sánchez nearly responded before halftime with a spectacular bicycle kick that hit the roof of the net, keeping the score at 1-0.
The second half saw Mbappé dominate the action. Despite coming close multiple times in the opening 12 minutes—sending two strikes straight at Vlachodimos, another narrowly wide, and a header tipped onto the crossbar—the Frenchman remained goalless for now. Sevilla, meanwhile, continued to test Courtois, with the Belgian making key saves from both Sánchez and Romero.
Sevilla’s hopes took a hit midway through the second half when Marcao received a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Bellingham. Real capitalized on the advantage: Rodrygo’s powerful effort was tipped onto the bar, and five minutes from time, Juanlu Sánchez fouled him in the box, allowing Mbappé to convert from the penalty spot for his 18th league goal of the season.
A second Real Madrid penalty was later overturned by VAR, but the hosts had done enough to secure their 11th home league win in 12 matches. Sevilla, meanwhile, have now lost six of their last nine LaLiga games.
