Conceição and Openda guide Juventus to slim win against Roma

Juventus maintained their perfect home record in Serie A this season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AS Roma at the Allianz Stadium.
The first half struggled to spark, with both sides showing little incisiveness in the final third. Early attempts from Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli and Roma forward Paulo Dybala failed to trouble either goalkeeper. Khephren Thuram’s speculative long-range strike for the hosts was comfortably saved by Mile Svilar around the half-hour mark.
As half-time approached, the crowd finally witnessed a clear opening. Francisco Conceicao showcased his skill by turning his marker before unleashing a shot from 12 yards, which Svilar managed to parry. However, the breakthrough came moments later when Conceicao struck again in the 44th minute, drilling a precise left-footed finish into the bottom corner to give Juventus the lead heading into the break.
The Bianconeri started the second half aggressively, putting Roma under sustained pressure. Kenan Yıldız came close to doubling Juventus’ advantage in the 52nd minute, and Andrea Cambiaso’s fierce effort from distance forced another sharp save from Svilar.
Juventus finally made their dominance count in the 70th minute. Lois Openda converted a smart assist from Weston McKennie, after his initial close-range attempt had been blocked by Svilar, giving the hosts a crucial two-goal cushion.
Roma refused to go quietly. In the 75th minute, Tommaso Baldanzi capitalized on a rebound after Evan Ferguson’s shot was parried by Michele Di Gregorio to pull a goal back, setting up a tense finish. Juventus nearly put the game beyond doubt when Yıldız’s curling effort rattled the post late on, but despite a few nervy moments, the home side held on for a deserved victory.
The win moves Juventus to fifth in the Serie A table, four points behind leaders Inter Milan, while Roma remain in fourth. Next weekend, Luciano Spalletti’s Roma face relegation-threatened Pisa on the road, and Juventus will look to continue their home dominance in upcoming fixtures.
