The Egyptian forward recently said he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” by manager Arne Slot and the Liverpool board after being left on the bench for a third consecutive game over the weekend against Leeds United.

Despite taking part in training on Monday — even sharing a light moment with teammates ahead of the clash with Inter — Salah was excluded from the travelling squad, as revealed by the club that same day.

Slot is set to address Salah’s remarks in a press conference this evening, which could be tense as he attempts to clarify the situation.

With 19 months still on the £400,000-a-week contract Salah signed in April, reports suggest the January transfer window might present the ideal time for his Liverpool exit.

The club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are believed to support Slot in the dispute — a fact underscored by Salah’s departure from the Inter squad. It appears increasingly likely the 33-year-old could be sold next month.

Interest has reportedly come from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, long viewed as a probable destination before retirement. Last season, speaking to the broadcaster ON Sport, Salah admitted he had held serious talks with Saudi clubs — saying, “My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious. It was a good opportunity for me; if I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool, it would have happened.”
