Tottenham working through Bissouma controversy; Udogie out until 2026

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are internally addressing Yves Bissouma’s recent conduct after the midfielder was reportedly seen inhaling nitrous oxide for a second time in just over a year.
Bissouma has not played for Spurs since being dropped ahead of August’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain due to persistent lateness. The Mali international then underwent ankle surgery in October, but hopes of a return took a further hit following a report in The Sun that appeared to show him using nitrous oxide — commonly referred to as laughing gas.
Should the latest claims be verified, it would mark the second incident of this kind involving the 29-year-old, who served a one-match ban at the start of the 2024/25 season after being filmed inhaling the substance — an act the club described at the time as a “severe lack of judgement.”
Nitrous oxide was classified as a Class C drug in England in 2023, making recreational possession a criminal offence.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Slavia Prague, Frank said:
“It’s an internal matter that we are dealing with at the moment, and when we have dealt with that, then I will comment on it.”
Bissouma had already been ruled out of the fixture, and Frank also confirmed a fresh setback for left-back Destiny Udogie, who will now be unavailable until the new year.
“Destiny picked up a hamstring injury at the end of the Newcastle game, so he’s out until January, unfortunately,” he explained.
There was better news for Spurs on the fitness front, with on-loan forward Randal Kolo Muani back in training on Monday despite limping off during the weekend’s 2-0 win over Brentford.
That victory — Tottenham’s first Premier League home win in nearly four months — eased some of the pressure on Frank after a challenging spell.
“It’s always good to build and get the momentum to get more consistent and good performances,” he added. “We’ll really try to build on that.”
Frank declined to discuss Tottenham’s hopes of securing a top-eight Champions League finish, a position that grants automatic qualification for the last 16.
“I am more about this next game ahead of us,” he said.
