Harden enters NBA top 10 scorers with milestone points

James Harden moved into the top 10 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Saturday, scoring 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Los Angeles Clippers from falling 109–106 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 36-year-old entered the game needing 20 points to surpass Carmelo Anthony’s 28,289 career points. After racking up 19 points before halftime, Harden officially overtook Anthony with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Harden is now one of only three active players in the top 10, alongside No. 8 Kevin Durant of Houston and 40-year-old LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who leads the list with 42,268 points after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) in 2023. Harden, in his 17th season, was the NBA’s leading scorer for three straight years from 2017 to 2020, but a championship has so far eluded him.
The Clippers, who started the season 6–18 and sit second-from-bottom in the Western Conference, led by as many as 18 points on Saturday but could not hold off a Timberwolves team paced by 27 points from Jaden McDaniels and 24 from Julius Randle.
Elsewhere in the NBA, Atlanta forward Jalen Johnson recorded his second consecutive triple-double as the Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards 131–116. Johnson scored 30 points with 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the absence of injured All-Star Trae Young. He had also tallied a triple-double the previous night against the Denver Nuggets, although Atlanta lost that contest.
In Cleveland, a depleted Golden State Warriors pulled off a 99–94 upset of the Cavaliers. With key players Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Al Horford, Jimmy Butler, De’Anthony Melton, and Seth Curry sidelined, Pat Spencer made his first NBA start and led the Warriors with a career-high 19 points. A dominant 33-point second quarter put Golden State in control, and despite a late surge from Donovan Mitchell, the Warriors held on as Mitchell missed a potential game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds.
Eastern Conference leaders Detroit extended their winning ways with a 124–112 victory over an undermanned Milwaukee Bucks squad. Cade Cunningham contributed 23 points and 12 assists, while Jalen Duren posted a 16-point, 16-rebound double-double. Kevin Porter Jr. scored 32 points for Milwaukee, who were without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a calf strain.
The Sacramento Kings notched their first double-digit win of the season, defeating the Miami Heat 127–111 behind a season-high 42 points from Zach LaVine. LaVine connected on eight of Sacramento’s 14 three-pointers as the 6–17 Kings secured a much-needed confidence boost.
