Lewandowski hat-trick helps Barcelona edge Celta and close gap on Real Madrid

Robert Lewandowski hit a stunning hat-trick as Barcelona claimed a 4–2 victory over Celta Vigo, ending their four-game winless run away from home and halting Celta’s five-match winning streak in the process.
Fast start and frantic first half
The match began at a breathless pace. Barcelona were grateful to Alejandro Balde, whose early goal-line clearance denied Celta an opener. Minutes later, the visitors were handed a golden opportunity when Marcos Alonso blocked Fermín López’s shot with his hand inside the box. Lewandowski stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to put Barça ahead.
Celta responded immediately. After Ionuț Radu denied Marcus Rashford in a one-on-one, the hosts countered swiftly, and Sergio Carreira powered home the equaliser to level the score.
Both sides traded attacks in a chaotic, end-to-end first half. Ferran Jutglà and Borja Iglesias posed constant threats for Celta on the break, but it was Barcelona who struck next. Rashford’s curling cross from the left eluded everyone except Lewandowski, who guided a smart volley through Radu’s legs to restore the lead.
Yet the drama didn’t stop there. Within moments, Jutglà teed up Iglesias, whose pinpoint first-time finish into the top corner made it 2–2.
In stoppage time, 16-year-old Lamine Yamal delivered another reminder of his immense talent, blasting home with his right foot to send Barça into the interval 3–2 up.
Barcelona regain control
Barcelona dominated after the break, dictating possession and pinning Celta deep inside their own half. The Galicians were forced to defend with ten men behind the ball, struggling to muster any real attacking threat.
As the hosts tired, Barcelona struck again. From a Rashford corner, Lewandowski rose at the near post to glance home his third goal, completing his hat-trick as the ball clipped the far post and nestled in the net.
Celta pushed late but were thwarted by solid defending and composed game management from the visitors.
Late setback, but a vital win
A stoppage-time red card for Frenkie de Jong slightly marred the evening, but it couldn’t take the shine off an important win. The result sees Barcelona close the gap on Real Madrid to just three points after Los Blancos’ slip-up at Rayo Vallecano earlier in the day.
Despite their recent resurgence, Celta drop to 13th place, and will need to regroup quickly to avoid being dragged back toward mid-table mediocrity.
For Barcelona, however, this was a much-needed away victory — and with Lewandowski back in full flow, their title hopes are very much alive.
