Inter Milan reclaimed first place in Serie A with a confident 2–0 victory over Lazio, extending their unbeaten run against the Biancocelesti to six matches and reinforcing their credentials as title favourites.

With Roma’s earlier win over Udinese briefly knocking them off the summit, Inter needed all three points to immediately regain control — and they wasted no time doing so.

Lightning start from Inter

Inside just three minutes, Alessandro Bastoni pressed aggressively to dispossess Gustav Isaksen, feeding Lautaro Martínez, who unleashed a stunning first-time strike that clipped the underside of the crossbar before nestling in the top corner.

The Nerazzurri maintained the early pressure, with Martínez glancing a header wide from a Federico Dimarco free-kick, while Ange-Yoan Bonny’s cross took a deflection into the side netting.

Lazio eventually grew into the game, as Mattia Zaccagni tested the Inter defence and drew fouls that saw Manuel Akanji and Petar Sucic booked. The visitors’ best early chance came when Zaccagni fired over under pressure, while Inter went close again through Sucic’s volley and Akanji’s long-range strike.

Dimarco and Bonny seal the win

The second half began more slowly for Inter, with Denzel Dumfries picking up a yellow card and Matteo Guendouzi forcing Yann Sommer into action. Manager Cristian Chivu responded with a double substitution after 56 minutes — and it paid off almost immediately.

Six minutes later, Nicolo Barella worked the ball wide to Martínez, who combined smartly with Dimarco. The left-back’s low cross was met by Bonny at the near post to make it 2–0 and give Inter breathing space.

Moments later, Piotr Zielinski thought he had added a third with a sublime finish, only for VAR to rule it out for a Dimarco handball in the buildup.

Lazio rallied late on — Pedro shot narrowly wide, and Mario Gila’s header from a free-kick struck the post before being smothered by Sommer. The Swiss keeper then produced another key save to deny Luca Pellegrini, ensuring Inter saw the match out comfortably.

A statement of intent

The result marked Inter’s 11th win in their last 12 games across all competitions, while ending Lazio’s six-match unbeaten run. The Biancocelesti now sit ninth, whereas Inter look every bit like champions in waiting.

History may also be on their side — each of the last three teams leading Serie A at the November international break have gone on to lift the Scudetto. With the title race still finely poised, Inter’s blend of control and clinical finishing suggests they remain the team to beat.
