Mikel Arteta has admitted to being “concerned” about Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres, who will miss Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Slavia Prague due to injury.

The Swedish forward, who scored in the weekend win over Burnley, was forced off during the second half and did not travel with the squad to the Czech capital. His return date remains uncertain as the club awaits further medical results.

“He’s definitely not available and he hasn’t trained today,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference. “He hasn’t had any muscular injuries before. We need to do some tests and scans to understand the extent of the injury. I am concerned. He had to leave the pitch as he was feeling something, and that’s obviously not a good sign for a player that is very explosive.”

With Gyökeres sidelined, Leandro Trossard is likely to lead the line for the Gunners. Arsenal’s attacking options remain thin, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli also unavailable due to long-term injuries.

Discussing the potential role change, Trossard said: “It’s a big change — it also depends on the state of the game and what the manager wants me to do. The last couple of years we’ve been challenging for the title, and we have the same mindset this season. We want to win it. We know how hard that is, but I think we’re on the right track. We want to win every game — that’s our mindset.”

Arsenal head into the clash unbeaten in four previous meetings with Slavia Prague, winning twice and drawing twice. However, Arteta insists his side cannot take anything for granted.

“The team has been competing well in all competitions, and tomorrow we know that we have a really tough match here,” he said. “They are unbeaten at home all season, they play with a clear philosophy, and they create a massive atmosphere. We know it’s going to be a tough match.”

The fixture also offers Arteta the chance to reunite with his former Arsenal teammate and current Sparta Prague director, Tomas Rosicky.

“I’ll try to see him,” Arteta said. “We had a great time together and Tomas is one of my favourite players I ever played with. If there’s a chance tomorrow, we’ll see each other, give each other a hug, and talk a little bit about football.”

Midfielder Martin Zubimendi will also miss the trip through suspension, opening the door for summer signing Christian Norgaard to make his first start for the club.
