Senne Lammens says he is unfazed by the pressure of playing for Manchester United and the inevitable comparisons to club legend Peter Schmeichel following his impressive start to life at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old Belgian has provided a steady presence in goal after a turbulent period for United, following inconsistent spells from André Onana and Altay Bayındır.

Since making his debut in the 2–0 win over Sunderland, Lammens has conceded only three goals from 14 shots on target, boasting a save percentage of 78.6%. His assured performances have already earned him the affection of United supporters, who have serenaded him with chants of “Are you Schmeichel in disguise?”

Speaking ahead of United’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Lammens admitted he is aware of the expectations that come with playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs—but insists he welcomes the challenge.

“Of course, you hear from other people that there’s a lot of pressure when you come here and play for this team,” he told BBC Sport. “But I welcome that. It’s an honour to play for such a big club. There should be pressure—I’m not scared of it.”

As for the Schmeichel comparisons, Lammens remains grounded.

“I don’t listen to it too much during the game, but I saw it afterwards,” he said. “I’m not Schmeichel in disguise—I’m just Senne Lammens, trying to help the team. It’s an amazing compliment, but you have to be realistic. He’s one of the best goalkeepers ever. I have a lot more to prove before I can be in the same conversation.”

With calm confidence and early consistency, Lammens appears determined to make his own name at Manchester United—on his own terms.
