The coming weeks could prove decisive. Villa face Liverpool this weekend — exactly the kind of stage on which Sancho needs to make an impact. Fixtures against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bournemouth follow before the international break, offering the winger a final chance to build momentum and earn Emery’s trust.

So far this season, Sancho’s only starts have come in Villa’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brentford and the Europa League loss to Go Ahead Eagles, leaving him still searching for rhythm and relevance in the side.

At the end of the campaign, both his loan deal with Aston Villa and his Manchester United contract are set to expire. United do hold an option to extend his deal, but given his current wages and lack of impact, that appears highly unlikely.
