Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank remains confident about Micky van de Ven’s long-term future at the club, despite reports linking the Dutch defender with a move to Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old centre-back continued his impressive form on Sunday, scoring twice in Tottenham’s 3–0 win over Everton, taking his tally to five goals in 13 appearances this season. The victory lifted Spurs to third in the Premier League, five points behind leaders and north London rivals Arsenal.

Van de Ven has emerged as a key figure in the heart of Tottenham’s defence, particularly in the absence of injured captain Cristian Romero, and is expected to lead the side again in Wednesday’s League Cup clash away to holders Newcastle United.

Frank, who guided Spurs to a Europa League triumph in May, appeared relaxed about speculation surrounding his defender’s future.

“Yeah, very happy with Micky. I think he’s been brilliant for the club since he signed and has taken big steps forward this season,” Frank said.

“He’s defending even better, still very good on the ball, and he’s added goals — especially from headers — which is great to see. He’s become a real threat from set-pieces.”

The Spurs boss also praised Van de Ven’s growing leadership qualities and commitment to the club.

“His character and leadership are developing really well. As far as I know, we have a strong contract with him, and I definitely see him having a big future here,” Frank added.

“He’s happy, which is very important. He enjoys his football and his time here, and everyone at the club is delighted with him — that’s always a good sign.”

Van de Ven joined Tottenham in 2023 on a six-year deal, and his rapid rise has made him one of the Premier League’s standout defenders this season.
