Mbeumo Scores Twice as Man Utd Secure Third Straight Win Over Brighton

A few weeks ago, it might have seemed improbable, but Manchester United have now racked up three consecutive Premier League victories after a thrilling 4–2 win over Brighton — their fourth straight league triumph at Old Trafford.
Fresh off the high of their dramatic Anfield win, United nearly found themselves punished early on when former Red Danny Welbeck was given too much room in the box, only to be denied by Senne Lammens.
Brighton felt hard done by moments later when Amad Diallo went down under a challenge from Maxim De Cuyper inside the area, but referee Anthony Taylor and VAR both waved play on.
United soon turned that frustration into fuel. Midway through the first half, big-money summer signing Matheus Cunha opened his account for the club, curling home confidently from the edge of the box to make it 1–0.
If the first goal was easy on the eye, the second was anything but — though no one inside Old Trafford cared. A loose pass from Jan Paul van Hecke was seized upon by Luke Shaw, and after a series of ricochets, Casemiro’s 25-yard effort took a deflection off Yasin Ayari before wrong-footing Bart Verbruggen.
Verbruggen redeemed himself early in the second half, producing a fine save to deny Bruno Fernandes from close range, but Brighton’s reprieve was short-lived. United found their rhythm and, amid protests from the visitors for a foul in the build-up, Bryan Mbeumo rifled home from the edge of the area to make it 3–0.
Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler was incensed when last-man Patrick Dorgu brought down Yankuba Minteh and escaped with just a yellow, but his mood lifted seconds later as Welbeck curled a sublime free-kick into the top corner against his former side.
The visitors pushed forward late on and were rewarded in stoppage time when Charalampos Kostoulas rose highest to nod in James Milner’s corner, setting up a nervy finish.
But United sealed the points in style. Deep into added time, Mbeumo struck again to restore their two-goal cushion and clinch a third successive league victory — their best run yet under Rúben Amorim.
The win lifts United, at least temporarily, into the Premier League’s top four — a position that felt a distant dream not so long ago.
