Klopp hints at possible Liverpool comeback

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has admitted he could one day return to Anfield, despite previously suggesting his coaching days were behind him.
The 58-year-old stepped down as Liverpool boss in 2024 after nine successful years in charge, explaining that he no longer had the energy required for what he described as one of the most demanding jobs in football.
Since leaving Merseyside, Klopp has taken on a new role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, beginning in early 2025. The German has repeatedly said he is enjoying life away from the dugout, focusing on football from a strategic, behind-the-scenes perspective.
However, speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Klopp admitted he would consider a return to Liverpool in the future if the right opportunity arose.
“I said I would never coach a different team in England. So that means if I did return, it would be Liverpool,” Klopp said. “Yeah, theoretically it’s possible.
“I don’t know exactly. I love what I do right now — I don’t miss coaching. I still coach, but in a different way.
“I don’t miss standing in the rain for three hours, or doing press conferences and interviews every week. I don’t miss that at all. I don’t miss the dressing room either — I’ve been in one for over 1,000 games. I don’t want to die in a dressing room, even if it smells nice,” he joked.
Klopp remains one of Liverpool’s most beloved figures, having ended the club’s 30-year wait for a league title in 2020 and leading them to Champions League glory the year before.
Reflecting on his future, Klopp said he hasn’t ruled out a potential return to coaching but is in no rush to make that decision.
“There might be something — I’m 58, so I could decide in a few years. I don’t know,” he added.
“If I had to make the decision today, I’d say I won’t coach again. But thank God I don’t have to. I’ll just see what the future brings.
“Right now, I’m working on a project I really love. I enjoy what I’m doing, and I know that if I focus 100 percent, I can do it really well.”
For now, Klopp seems content with his new chapter — but his comments suggest that the door to Anfield may not be completely closed.
