Frenkie de Jong Extends Barcelona Contract, Reportedly Agrees to Pay Cut

Frenkie de Jong, the 28-year-old Dutch international, joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and is now entering his seventh season with the Catalan club. During his time at Camp Nou, he has helped the team secure two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies.
While De Jong has faced periods of inconsistent form, he became a central figure in Barcelona’s midfield under Hansi Flick last season, often partnering with Pedri and frequently wearing the captain’s armband.
Originally arriving during the tenure of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, De Jong is among Barcelona’s top earners. According to Spanish media, he has agreed to a pay cut in his new contract, which will take effect from the 2026/27 season.
